John Homer Detrich John Homer Detrich, 68, died March 9, 2011. He was born in Los Angeles, California on May 28, 1942. He graduated Mission Bay High School, San Diego, 1960 and the University of California at Riverside, 1964. He received his Ph.D in Physics from the University of Chicago in 1971. After several years of research positions, he changed direction and went to work for high tech companies. However, he still continued to collaborate with his professor from the University of Chicago, Clemmons Roothaan. Over the years, they continued to write and publish scientific papers. They made their last joint presentation at the International Supercomputing Conference, Hamburg, Germany in 2009. John was a man of deep and abiding faith. He always was quick to acknowledge he didn't have one of the strongest voices in the church choirs he sang in over the years, but still loved to participate with fellow congregation members. John is survived by his mother, Dorothy Fontanella, wife Rosemary, daughter Elizabeth Farris, grandson Justin Farris; brother Robert E. Detrich and wife Michelle, sisters Dorothy Jean Normark, Barbara Gallagher and husband Robert, several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, and devoted father to Elizabeth. No matter how demanding work was, he always was involved in her upbringing and life. Arrangements are with the Neptune Society. A memorial service will be held at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church, Georgetown, Texas on Thursday, March 17th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, contributions may be made to the San Gabriel Presbyterian Church or MD Anderson Cancer Center.
