Note
A native of Virgil, Cortland Co., NY, born February 12, 1824, daughter of William and Salina (Ehvell) Roberts. Her father was a tailor by trade, but on account of ill health abandoned that pursuit, and took up farming. In 1837 he removed with his family to Warren County, IL, where he purchased 160 acres of wild prairie land, which he proceeded to cultivate, making his home thereon until 1846, when he sold, and removed to Dane County, WI. There he purchased a quarter-section of land, part prairie and part timber, but was not long permitted to enjoy his new home, his death occurring in 1848. His wife passed away in 1872. Their children were Clarissa and Ezra, deceased; James C., of Illinois; Harriet and Ira Norman, deceased; Darius, of Canton, IL; Mrs. Van Patten; Nancy, who died at the age of fourteen; and Mary, who died at the age of thirteen years.
