    * SAD ACCIDENT AT FARMINGTON
    We learn from Mr. S. FOUNTAIN of Farmington who was on the train that on Wednesday morning the train south ran into the team of Dr. VAN PATTEN an old man and for many years a prominent citizen of Trivoli Township, and injuring him so severely it is thought he cannot survive. The accident occurred at the crossing near the bridge just south of Farmington. Mr. VAN PATTEN probably did not hear the train and when he discovered it was to late to check the train, although the engineer whistled down the brakes and tried to stop. The team was a span of mules attached to a large wagon. The mules had crossed the track and the wagon was directly across the track when the locomotive struck it. The mules were thrown but apparently not injured. The wagon was cut in two, one part on one side and the other part thrown on the other side of the track. Mr. VAN PATTEN was thrown on the pilot and was carried several hundred yards before the train could be stopped. He was found to be very crushed and mangled about the body, one arm broken, and doubtless injured internally and to much an extent that it was thought he could not recover.
    We learn that the mill at the bridge, owned by Griffin & Marchant, was about being removed to Trivoli- that on Wednesday a number of teams were to come from Trivoli to take up the machinery of the mill. Mr. VAN PATTEN, who was one largely interested in securing the removal of the mill, had come down with his team to take up a load and met with the accident as we have stated above. It is a very sad affair as Mr. VAN PATTEN was on of the leading citizens of Trivoli and a man highly esteemed.
